Overview
My thesis project, due to be completed in May 2004, focuses on patient monitoring in hospital intensive care units (ICUs). Currently ICUs have an unintegrated set of technologies that dont adequately support the needs of nurses and adapt poorly to the physical space. Alarms, in particular, have a number of well-documented problems.
The end result of my project will be a product or system concept that will address the needs of nurses in monitoring patients. Check back in May for the final concept, and look for occasional status updates until then.
Activities
- Medical journal literature review
- Observations in ICUs
- Interviews with ICU directors, nurses, and respiratory therapists
- Opportunity identification and concept ideation
- Design and testing
